Local & Regional Flaps
Benefits
Local and regional flaps are sophisticated reconstructive techniques in which nearby tissue is transferred to repair or replace tissue lost through cancer excision, trauma, infection or radiation. These techniques allow complex wounds to be closed with tissue that matches the colour, texture and thickness of the surrounding skin.
Mr Thacoor is trained in a wide range of local and regional flap techniques, from simple advancement and rotation flaps to more complex pedicled and perforator flaps, tailored to each patient.
Common applications
- Reconstruction after skin cancer excision on the face, scalp and trunk
- Coverage of exposed bone, tendon or joint after trauma
- Repair of complex or recalcitrant wounds
- Restoration of contour and function after oncological resection
