Benefits

Reduced scar bulk and rednessImproved textureReduced itching and tendernessCombined surgical and non-surgical approachTailored treatment planSpecialist long-term management

Keloid scars are an overgrowth of scar tissue that extends beyond the boundaries of the original wound. They can be itchy, tender and cosmetically distressing, and are more common in darker skin types.

Management of keloid scars is nuanced and usually involves a combination of treatments. Mr Thacoor will assess your scar and devise an individualised management plan, which may include intralesional steroid injections, surgical excision followed by adjuvant therapy, pressure therapy, or silicone sheeting.

Treatment options

  • Intralesional steroid injections (triamcinolone)
  • Surgical excision combined with post-operative steroid injections
  • Silicone gel sheeting and pressure garments
  • Laser therapy as an adjunct

Important note

Keloid scars can recur after treatment. Mr Thacoor will discuss realistic expectations and the importance of long-term follow-up at consultation.
