Mole Removal
Benefits
Most moles are completely benign, but they may be removed for cosmetic reasons or if there is clinical concern about their appearance — particularly if they have changed in size, shape, colour or texture, or are causing symptoms such as bleeding or itching.
Mr Thacoor performs mole removal under local anaesthetic, excising the mole with an appropriate margin of surrounding skin. All removed tissue is routinely sent for histological analysis. The wound is closed with fine sutures, resulting in a flat, linear scar that fades significantly over time.
The ABCDE rule
If a mole concerns you, look for: Asymmetry, Border irregularity, Colour variation, Diameter greater than 6mm, or Evolution (change over time). Any of these features warrant prompt assessment.
What to expect
- Local anaesthetic; day case procedure
- Takes 15–30 minutes
