Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC)
Benefits
Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the second most common form of skin cancer, arising from the squamous cells of the outer skin layers. Unlike BCC, SCC carries a risk of spreading to lymph nodes or distant organs, particularly in high-risk tumours.
Mr Thacoor manages SCC within a multidisciplinary framework. Treatment involves wide local excision with clear margins, followed by reconstruction tailored to the site and defect size.
What to expect
- Wide local excision with 4–6mm margins (or more for high-risk lesions)
- Reconstruction planned to minimise scarring and preserve function
- Histology reviewed within a multidisciplinary skin cancer team meeting
- Sentinel lymph node biopsy considered for high-risk tumours
- Close post-operative surveillance arranged
